Sharps Disposal Program (Home Generated Only)

There are three facilities in Kern County which allow for home generated sharps disposal. The purpose of the program is to offer a convenient means for disposal to protect the environment and public from sharps related injuries.

Here is how it works:

Take your sharps waste (Must be contained using an approved and sealed sharps container) to one of the following Special Waste Facilities.

Bakersfield Special Waste Facility

Open Tuesday through Saturday 8:00-4:00 PM

Mojave Special Waste Facility

17035 Finnin Street, Mojave CA

Open the 1st Saturday of every month from 9:00AM - 12:00 PM

Ridgecrest Special Waste Facility

3301 W. Bowman Road

Open the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month from 10:00AM - 1:00 PM

When you bring your full sharps container to one of these facilities, they will give you a new one. Make sure you do not bring your sharps waste inside of a regular plastic container as the facilities will not accept your sharps waste.

There are a variety of drop off locations available for expired or unused medication and pharmaceutical waste.
