What is the difference between a good and bad medical waste disposal agreement?
You should always be careful when signing any service agreement - and medical waste disposal is no different.
With over 10 years as a medical waste disposal service and over 1500 clients in California alone, we have seen it all.
These are the main things to look out for in your service agreement.
Many medical waste disposal companies will ‘reserve the right’ to raise your rate during the term of the agreement. This means that the rate you originally agreed to is no longer your rate, but you are still locked into the contract.
How does that make any sense?
You should be cautious of companies trying to get you to sign a long-term agreement. A company who believes they will keep you as a customer would not feel the need to ‘lock’ you up into a 5 year agreement.
This section of the contract outlines any additional fees or taxes that come with your service. It is much better to have an all inclusive price so you know exactly what you are paying and there are no surprises on your bill.
The agreement should reflect your service needs. Paying a “flat rate” for up to a certain amount of waste or paying monthly fees whether your medical waste is serviced or not is a sneaky way to run up your bill.
Bad agreements are still prevalent in the medical waste disposal industry. Just last year, one of our representatives came into contact with a large Northern California facility who was locked into the perfect example of a bad medical waste agreement.
After looking at their invoices, agreement, and manifest details - we found:
They were being charged a monthly fee for hazardous waste management, even though they did not generate hazardous pharmaceutical waste. Additionally, they had been charged for fixer / developer services despite not having any for years.
By the 5th year of the agreement, they were paying an exponential of what they were originally quoted. The original quote they were given was expensive, but the price they were paying by year 5 was outrageous.
A fair service agreement should:
✔ Only charge you for the waste you actually generate
✔ Have all inclusive pricing with no hidden fees
✔ Your quote should be locked in for the term of your agreement
✔ It should be a short-term contract
At Eco Medical, we believe in transparent service agreements for medical waste disposal where you only pay for what is actually serviced. We don’t feel the need to ‘lock up’ our customers, but instead focus on delivering an amazing service which retains customers.
